THE 4 R's

Conservation is easy and yes, you can make a difference! If you have the desire to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repeat and are unsure of where to begin, this is the place to start.

Simple everyday people making simple everyday changes in favor of the environment will save the Planet along with our Pocketbooks. With regards to the natural environment my awareness has begun to soar and I would like to share some of what I’ve learned in just a short amount of time. Together, with your comments, ideas and actions a difference will be made; Show Mother Earth some Love.

Please speak freely as I am a hard individual to offend. If you feel that my comments or that this page altogether are a liberalistic waste of time let me know, I’d love to listen to your statements and prefer viewing both sides of the fence.

The Little Things: Let’s start with small changes and move upward. If you unconvinced of the importance of small changes I suggest creating a small snowball, rolling it down a steep mountain slope and making note of the results.

And there are so many "Little Things" we can start with.
~use CFL or LED lightbulbs
~turn off lights when you don't absolutely need them
~unplug electric cords when items not in use or can sit idle for a while
~recycle EVERYTHING you can
~remove the labels from cans and jars and recycle them with paper
~recycle rolls from toilet paper
~recycle all cardboard
~stop using paper towels and napkins and use wash clothes and cloth napkins
~don't wash bath towels after each use - after all you were clean, hang them up to dry and reuse
~don't wash clothes just because they were worn once if they are not dirty.
~hang out laundry whenever and wherever possible
~Reuse plastic bags and don't get any new ones when shopping - or if you don't have a bagfull of bags get the reusable ones and only use those.
~If you have paper bags use them to stack paper recycling items and recycle all together
~plant your own garden - start with safe seeds, save seeds that are chemical free and use them next season
~walk when and where possible - if you have to ~drive plan your errands so you can do them all at one time and save extra trips

Dawn,

Your comments are an asset to this page, thank you for this well thought out list that is so simple to follow. Right now I am turning off the TV that was on for no apparent reason. Many of these topics will be discussed in detail in future posts. Thanks again

A lot of our recycling begins with our first choice.

If we can just be a bit more selective in our choices, perhaps there would be not as much need to recycle. Imagine if you never had bought a drink at a fast food joint? Already you have no need for recycling all of the waste(cup, lid, straw)that comes with that one cup of soda.

Here is a great article on how tech could help minimize our materialistic tendencies, but instead it's creating a monster of material out of our lives because we as a people are not developed emotionally or spiritually yet. It's as if we are savages playing with toys we do not understand.
